Northeast Region of Brazil
The Northeast region of Brazil is home to some 50 million people and according to UNICEF, half of them live on less than $200 a month. Despite the growth of churches in Brazil in recent times, this region remains a vast mission field with overwhelming challenges. Idolatry mixed with Catholicism and superstition is the prevailing religious practice here. There are several places of pilgrimage where millions gather to worship local patron saints.
According to SEPAL, a respected statistics ministry, there are 10,000 villages in NE Brazil without any Christian presence.
Social issues such as poverty, unemployment and high illiteracy rate are are also a major challenge in this region. Statistics for child trafficking that are used in prostitution rings, or black magic rituals are appalling.
It was the realization of this need and a calling from God that led us to move from the United States in 2008 and establish a base in this region.
Our vision is to go to the small to mid-size towns and hold city wide, open air evangelistic events in which every single person in the city will have the opportunity to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. Along with the crusades, different activities take place such as youth crusades, school outreaches, conferences to encourage and empower the local churches, outreaches to unreached villages, church planting initiatives, pastors seminars and much more. The idea is to impact the entire community.
Since we moved back to Brazil, we held 12 salvation and healing crusades in this region. Thousands have come to Christ, wonderful healing miracles have taken place and new leaders have been released. A soul winning passion has been infused in the heart of young leaders and there is a multiplication effect taking place.
There have been many victories, yet we are fully aware that we have only started to address the needs in this region.
2011 Vision
In 2011 we are focusing on the Cariri Region, in the state of Ceara. It is one of the least reached and one of the poorest regions in Brazil. The cities we are targeting have an average of 1- 2% born again Christians.We are excited to help write Gospel history in this much needed region. Can we count on you?
